What to do...?

Local Gems

Of course we’re positioned perfectly for day trips to some outstanding Highland locations from the isle of Skye to Ullapool but the wee village of Aultbea has some fabulous gems of its own as well as all the local services that make your visit that bit easier- the Aultbea stores, a local post office, a garage and a local petrol station. Read on for some of our recommendations:

Aultbea Stores

A 5 minute walk from the hotel, this exceptionally well stocked village shop has all the essentials you might require on your travels – as well as some luxuries including many of the gins and whiskies you may have sampled as the Convoy Tavern.

Aultbea Village market

Held on the first Friday of the month at the village hall you’ll find goodies to take away with you from artisan bread and local seafood to unique gift ideas and hand made knitwear. The Market is run by our local tourist information centre Gale- find out about other markets and things to do in the area at the Gale Action Forum website.

The Open Studio

Run by local photographer Adrian Hollister and often with the assistance of many other renowned photographers the Open studio provides a space for photographers who wish to push the artistic boundaries of their photography. Book for week long winter courses or shorter workshops run throughout the summer.

 The Drumchork Distillery

Perhaps the smallest and most interesting Distillery in Scotland. Take a tour at the Drumchork Distillery and see how the distilling process works. Also learn about the historic illicit whisky trade in the area and much more.

Ritchies of Aultbea

Increasingly getting the reputation of one of the best black puddings around and its made right here. Available to purchase in the town store or the hotel if advanced notice is given.
